What is a Community Climate Hub?
Community Climate Hubs are groups of local residents organizing for stronger, more equitable climate action in their cities and towns.
Each Hub is unique — shaped by the people, priorities, and opportunities of the communities they’re rooted in.
Whether you're looking to join an existing Hub or start one where you live, you’re in the right place.
COMMUNITY CLIMATE HUBS
TURN CLIMATE CONCERN
INTO LOCAL AMBITION
LOCAL-LEVEL ACTION
International accords - though essential - have proved insufficient to achieve reduction targets. Citizens, businesses, and civil society actors must step up to support a just transition. The Hubs, therefore, focus at the local level, where risks of a changing climate (floods, heat-waves, etc.) and rewards of reducing pollution (air quality, cost savings, etc.) are most tangible.
JOIN THE HUB NETWORK
The Community Climate Hubs (CCH) program recognizes and believes in the power of citizens and grassroots community-led action in building social movements that pressure municipalities to implement climate justice-focused policies, and attempts to empower and connect these citizens and grassroots groups across municipalities together through the Community Climate Hub model and overarching Hub network.

What is the Community Climate Hub program?
A national program helping people organize locally to shape bold, equitable climate solutions in their communities
The Community Climate Hub Program, launched by Climate Reality Project Canada in 2017, is a nationwide initiative that builds and supports local, community-led groups (Hubs!) working to raise climate ambition at the municipal level.
The goal of the Community Climate Hub program is to empower people to take action and organize in their own communities—pushing for change where it’s most tangible and close to home. The result is the creation of resilient, locally grounded community groups that push for ambitious climate policy, while fostering inclusive, connected communities.
Canadian Municipalities make up almost half of the countries Greenhouse Gas Emissions! Municipalities govern key systems like transportation, housing, and waste — all of which significantly impact both our carbon emissions and the equity of our communities.
Community Climate Hubs are a vehicle for change—they are groups of engaged local residents who come together to push for stronger, more equitable climate policy in their city or town. These Hubs are rooted in the understanding that local governments, though often overlooked, have a critical role to play in climate action. Community Climate Hubs are designed to be autonomous and grassroots — steered by the people who live in the communities they’re rooted in.
Hub members are the ones driving the ship: identifying priorities, building local support, and pushing for change. Climate Reality Project Canada is here to keep the wind in the sails — offering resources, connection, and momentum to help local action thrive.

With teams of support behind you, and a network made up of those who have successfully started their own Hubs, your Hub can learn to become a force of change in your community.
WHAT HUBS DO
01
Help unify voices around a shared vision for decarbonization and advance their communities along the milestone process set out by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
02
Obtain municipal commitments to net zero emissions by 2050 or sooner and ensure communities are on track to reaching their target without leaving anyone behind.
03
Ensure that cities not only work to decarbonize, but do so in a way that champions building equitable, climate-resilient communities in the process.
It’s easier than you think, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
