Susan Ancel

Board Member

Susan graduated from the University of Alberta in 1987, with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and has over 30 years of engineering experience in municipal water systems. After five years at UMA Engineering in Edmonton, she joined EPCOR, the City of Edmonton’s water utility, as a project engineer, and has steadily risen through positions of greater responsibility with EPCOR including Director of Network Services, Director Water Distribution and Transmission and Director of Stormwater Strategies where she was responsible for and provided leadership and innovation in the development of Edmonton’s new $1.6B, 20 year Stormwater Integrated Resource Plan, to reduce the risk of overland flooding in the city. This project has gained Susan, the City of Edmonton, and EPCOR, worldwide recognition in flood prevention. She is currently Director of One Water Planning where she has responsibility for the development of strategic plans for the entire water cycle and received a Clean50 award in 2021 for her accomplishment in her mandate. Susan has also served on numerous industry committees including the Board of Directors for the Geospatial Information Technology Association (GITA) from 2001 to 2007 and was President of GITA in 2006. She currently is a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Water Network. Susan also currently services as warden and secretary-registrar for Camp 6 for the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer. In 2020 she was also awarded a Fellowship from the Canadian Society of Senior Engineers.
