Board Member

Jamie Lavigne is the Director of Water at the Assembly of First Nations (AFN). The AFN is a national advocacy organization that works to advance the collective aspirations of First Nations individuals and communities across Turtle Island on matters of national or international nature and concern. Her role involves supporting the implementation of the AFN’s wide-ranging mandates and initiatives from First Nations-in-Assembly that focus on water stewardship over inland and marine areas, which include jurisdiction as well as conservation and protection initiatives. The advocacy work within the Sector looks to advance First Nations’ water leadership with a specific focus on the traditional roles and responsibilities of women as it relates to water. Jamie is passionate on ensuring a holistic approach to the issues that First Nations disproportionally face related to water and firmly believes that women have a direct responsibility for the overall protection of water. Jamie is from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation and currently resides on the unceded and unsurrendered lands of the Algonquin Peoples, now known as Renfrew, Ontario. She holds a master’s degree in environmental science from Nipissing University where her work focused on freshwater and the effects of climate change and anthropogenic sources.

The Climate Reality Project Canada’s office is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. Our organization honours, recognizes and respects these Nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we are today.
