YOUTH AND STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
THE NATIONAL CLIMATE LEAGUE : CAMPUS EDITION
We're excited to launch the National Climate League: Campus Edition (NCLC). Join us to participate in data collection as a student, staff member, or faculty at a post-secondary academic institution — or as a citizen of the world interested in climate action metrics, even if you’re not affiliated with a school. The information collection and resulting findings from the NCLC will create a comprehensive source of data on sustainability performance and climate action initiatives at post-secondary academic institutions across Canada.
WHAT IS THE NCLC?
Recognizing the disproportionate impact of climate change on younger generations, the NCLC empowers students to translate awareness into tangible climate action on their campuses. The NCLC was inspired by the success of the National Climate League (NCL) – a volunteer-driven, annual data collection initiative introduced by The Climate Reality Project Canada in 2018.
GOALS
The primary objective of the NCLC is to enhance transparency regarding sustainability efforts within post-secondary academic institutions across Canada. By gathering and analyzing data, students aim to hold their universities accountable to climate targets.
The goal is to empower students to advocate for:
1
Transparency
Demand greater transparency from post-secondary administrations.
2
Policies and Practices
Advocate for policies and practices that are sustainable and just.
3
Divestment
Call for divestment from fossil fuels.
DATA
We gather data on six primary indicators and five complementary indicators at each campus. Each indicator comprises several specific variables, leading to a range of detailed inquiries.
PRIMARY INDICATORS

Climate Action Strategy
Transportation
Divestment
STARS Assessment
Climate Justice
COMPLEMENTARY INDICATORS
Education
Waste

PAST EVENTS
CAMPUS CLIMATE ACTION SUMMIT
Through workshops led by climate experts, leaders and activists, the Student Climate Action Summit provides an opportunity to learn with other students with the goal of fostering climate action on your own college and university campuses. It is a summit adapted to the summer rhythm with a schedule of sessions spread over several weeks.
Open to post-secondary students across Canada, the Summit is a space for exchange and training for students from various backgrounds, united through their commitment to climate action. Together, participants will have the opportunity to explore concrete and innovative solutions to fight the climate crisis and encourage their own Campuses to become more sustainable.
This virtual event will also be a great opportunity to meet committed people and expand your personal network.
YOUTH WEEK OF ACTION
Each year in September, the Climate Reality Project Canada organizes a week of action for young people. We explore topics such as the importance of voting, affordable housing, and institutional divestment from fossil fuels through blog posts, calls to action, webinars, and informal upstream gathering spaces. of the Global Strike for Climate Justice launched by the Fridays for future movement.
If you want to learn more about how the above topics relate to the climate crisis, if you want to join a space where you can meet other young activists, or just prepare for the global protest for the climate, this week of action is for you! Keep an eye out for more details on each of the events and for registration links.
The Climate Reality Project Canada’s (CRPC) office is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. CRPC honours, recognizes and respects these Nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we are today.
