Jamie was raised in a small town where he was either surrounded by agricultural fields or forest. Although it might not have been articulated in words, his connection to the land was an important part of who he was, more so than he was even aware of. The more he learnt about society in cegep and university, the more he realized it has the destructive habit of trying to take over nature. That is when he really got involved in student strike movements, in 2019. Since then, he has given workshops on student mobilization and organized conferences on subjects like degrowth, oil and gas pipelines, and grassroot mobilization. He has worked with different NGOs and non-profits and has recently started his own regenerative farm in his hometown. All this has led him to the position of Regional Engagement Coordinator at Climate Reality, where he has been since September 2021.

Why did you join the climate movement/what pushed you to become interested in climate change issues?

The preservation of land and taking care of the things most important to our communal health.

What is one achievement you are proud of?

The Montreal climate march in March 2019.

What are some climate change initiatives you are currently taking part in?

Farming, a mobilisation tour and developing Hubs.

What do you think is the most effective way for people to take climate action?

To realize they have everything to gain from a just transition. To acknowledge the power of communities and to believe in the power of education and grassroot mobilisation.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I lived in a yurt!
