Play It Cool: Why is being a member of Play It Cool and going carbon neutral important to you?
Hayley Wickenheiser: I am pleased to be involved with other athletes and Play It Cool and help to spread the message of global warming and our need as citizens of the world to pay attention to our environment.Play It Cool: What effects of global warming have you witnessed in your travels?
Hayley Wickenheiser: As a kid, growing up on the outdoor rinks, I think it's fair to say that the 'frozen ponds' are not what they once were. I certainly have noticed this change in our environment and as an athlete, know that it directly affects what I do for a living.Play It Cool: What positive changes are you making to reduce your impact on the climate?
Hayley Wickenheiser: I've gone carbon neutral, buy local organic foods, and practice regular habits of recycling and conserving energy around the house. I also share the story of the climate crisis and 'going green' with my son and many kids across Canada. I am a believer that it doesn't take major changes in our lifestyle but rather small consistent habits in our daily lives that help effect change around the world.
