Karel Mayrand - President & Chair of the BoardKarel Mayrand is the manager for the David Suzuki Foundation - Québec and is part of the management team for DSF's Vancouver office. He is also a trained presenter for the Climate Reality Project Canada and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Before joining the David Suzuki Foundation, he was co-founder of Unisféra International Centre, a sustainable development think-tank wherein he created Planetair, a carbon offset programme leading the Canadian carbon credit sector. Karel has worked in the sustainable development sector now for over 12 years. He has served as a sustainable development consultant to many governments and United Nation agencies, including former Quebec Premier Marc Johnson for more than a decade. Regularly invited to comment on environmental issues in the media, Karel is also co-author of Governing Global Desertification (2006, Ashgate Aldershot Editions, London) and Manifeste pour un Québec durable ( 2007). He is a 2005 Action Canada fellow and was a finalist for the Arista Provincial Competition in 2008 as Quebec's socially responsible entrepreneur of the year. | |||||||||||
Jean-François Barsoum - Chair of the communications committeeAs the leader of the Innovation and Environment consulting practice at IBM Canada, Jean-François Barsoum has helped create strategies for companies in several sectors, including financial, higher education, green tech, professional associations, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications firms. He has participated in the creation (and continues to work with) the international team supporting IBM's Smarter Cities initiative, aiming to transform cities' water and transportation networks. | |||||||||||
Philippe Kattan - AttorneyBased in Montreal, Quebec, Philippe Kattan practices law in Lapointe Rosenstein L.L.P.'s commercial practice group. While his practice covers many areas of commercial law, he specializes in mergers and acquisitions, real estate and taxation and estate planning. Philippe advises several not-for-profit and student organizations regarding corporate, taxation, accreditation, governance and a wide variety of other general legal issues. He is often called upon to attend board or general meetings of such organizations to offer specific and/or general advice on various legal issues. In 2009, Philippe completed the Climate Reality presenter training in Nashville, Tennessee, and was subsequently offered a seat on the board of directors of Climate Reality Canada. In this capacity, he advises the board on all manner of legal issues facing the organization. He is also a member of the Centre for the Law of Business and International Trade as well as the Association de planification fiscale et financière. Philippe is a graduate of the Université de Montréal with a civil law degree and of the John Molson School of Business with a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Finance). He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 2007. | |||||||||||
Chantal Despres - Chair of the Fundraising CommitteeBased in Montreal, Chantale Després is Director of Marketing Communications and Research at CN, responsible for the design and implementation of strategic marketing communication programs in support of multiple business units, as well as market research. Over the past two years, she has added environmental solutions to her responsibilities and has had the opportunity to work with many leading companies, consultants, and governments in the area of sustainability and environmental strategies. In April of 2008, Chantale completed the Climate Reality training in Montreal and at The Climate Reality Project's North American Summit in Nashville, in May 2009. She became chair of the fundraising committee in January of 2009 for Climate Reality Canada. Chantale holds a Masters Degree in Marketing from l'Université de Sherbrooke and a Business Administration Degree from l'Université de Moncton. | |||||||||||
Ryan Kadowaki - DirectorBased in Vancouver, Ryan Kadowaki is the Senior Program Coordinator for the David Suzuki Foundation's Climate Change and Clean Energy Program. Over the past three years, Ryan has worked on public outreach campaigns focusing on finding solutions to climate change. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Victoria and is currently enrolled in the Master of Environment and Management program at Royal Roads University. In 2010, Ryan completed the Climate Reality presenter training in Nashville, Tennessee. Ryan enjoys his presentation work, speaking to audiences about climate change and sustainability issues and drawing on his experiences at the David Suzuki Foundation. In 2011, Ryan joined the Board of Directors of Climate Reality Canada. | |||||||||||
Gordon Hicks - DirectorGordon Hicks joined BLJC in 1997 and held a number of Executive roles until being promoted to President in 2006. Gordon is a graduate Engineer of Carleton University, a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He is committed to supporting the Real Estate Industry in operating to the highest environmental standards, and served on the Board of Directors of the Canada Green Building Council from May 2007 to June 2010. He recently was appointed as Chair of the CaGBC's Market Development Committee. In April 2008, Gord became one of 275 Certified Canadian Presenters of Climate Reality Canada. In 2009, he also joined the Board of Directors of the organization. Finally, in 2009 Gord was appointed the Cabinet Leader for the Real Estate Sector of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation's Leaders for the Cure Program. BLJC was recognized by Canadian Business and Macleans magazines as one of Canada's "Top 30 Greenest Companies" in 2010. | |||||||||||
Candace Labelle - Vice-PresidentCandace Labelle is based in Ottawa, Ontario, where she is the director for CSC's internal sustainability initiative known as CSC GreenWay. Launched in June of 2008, the program is responsible for developing and implementing CSC's short and long term corporate environmental and sustainability strategy. Through this program, CSC is actively engaging employees and reducing the environmental footprint of their global operations, supporting 92,000 employees in over 80 countries. Candace attended Ottawa University, holds certifications for PMP, 6 Sigma Green Beltand ITIL Foundations, and has 15 years experience in the IT industry. As an active Climate Reality presenter, having attended the first Canadian training in Montreal in 2008, and well as Mr.Gore's US Summit and follow up training in Nashville in May of 2009, Candace delivers the urgent message on climate change and our need for action whenever an opportunity presents itself. Her presentations are updated with Canadian content and a solutions and activity focus, and then shared with various local audiences on a volunteer basis to help raise awareness about climate change, and inspire action toward change. | |||||||||||
